About Splinters Woodworks
Splinters Workshop

Coming up with Splinters as a business name just seemed to materialize one day to me, as great ideas usually do. I had pondered for a name which would be easy to remember and be connected to what I love to do. Considering Splinters connection with wood it seemed an appropriate choice. I went searching for domain names on line and found it was available. I grabbed it and Splinter Woodworks was born. and will continue to grow and mature as time passes.

Splinters Woodworks has evolved from working where ever I could find a place to work to;

  • a balcony storage room in a small Apt;
  • a friends shop over his garage;
  • a small garage under my house;
  • finally to a shop of my own in these beautiful northwoods of Montana.
  • There I am finally able to set up all my tools and work on different projects at the same time.

"Woodbutchers"…that's what Mr Carr would call us. I still remember it clearly.

It all started innocently enough in a high school shop class a few years ago. After hours of lectures about machine operation, safety, and cleaniness of the work area we were given one of our first projects. A simple broom holder, and my mom kept it and used it for many many years. Little did I know that those lessons would instill in me the love and desire to create using wood as my vessel.

Mr Carr's favorite comment was always "Listen to me and someday you will wear diamonds."

Well, to this day I have never been interested in wearing diamonds, but he did plant the seed in me to look outside the box and create personal works of art using wood. They might be in the form of picnic tables, picture frames, cribbage boards, stools, toothbrush holders, earring stands..etc. The ability to create something out of raw materials from beginning to end is a very satisfying feeling.

To Mr Carr I say thanks. Perhaps you weren't trying to do anything more than teach a shop class, but you did!
